Ashley Toth
Myofunctional Therapist

A native of upstate New York, Ashley Toth's journey to Myofunctional Therapy began in 2014. After graduating from the SUNY Broome Dental Hygiene program and earning her license as a Registered Dental Hygienist, Ashley went on to work in private practice for the next 8 years, gaining extensive experience working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Her passion for overall health, wellness and disease prevention has been a driving force behind her desire to help those affected by oral muscular dysfunctions of the lips, tongue and soft palate.

When Ashley Babb started her career as a registered dental hygienist 13 years ago, the curriculum didn't teach about orofacial dysfunctions and all the markers of underdevelopment that she encountered every day with her patients. Most dentists hadn't learned about it either, nor had many of the specialists they worked with.

Ashley had a lightbulb moment when she started understanding the connection between oral development to airway and systemic health and developed a passion for helping people overcome issues associated with orofacial dysfunction.

While working in private practice, Ashley was introduced to Myofunctional Therapy and started to connect symptoms and dysfunctions, not only with patients, but with her own children as well. She decided to combine her experience, education, and observations of these dysfunctions to help her family and the patients suffering from mouth breathing, crowded teeth, orthodontic relapse, snoring, clenching, grinding, and the effects of sleep apnea and jaw pain.

Ashley graduated from the MyoMentor Program; a Myofunctional Therapy Course offered by the Breathe Institute. After completing the program, she continue to learn, educate, and connect with other Myofunctional Therapy professionals to expand her existing skill set and to develop advanced proficiency as a Myofunctional Therapist. She partnered with a close  colleague and fellow therapist, Ashley Babb, to launch Ithaca Myofunctional Therapy, where the two specialize in the treatment and prevention of oral muscular dysfunctions.

"I love what I do and the connections and relationships I get to build with my patients. It's so rewarding to help people make changes that improve their lives on a core level."  Ashley Toth

When she isn't treating patients, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, and two young sons, Gunner and Grady. The whole family are avid fans of the outdoors and the boys are actively involved in a variety of sports. When Ashley and Michael aren't attending their sons' games, the family enjoys fishing, camping and anything that gets them all together outdoors.

She started studying her craft at the Academy for Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT) alongside dentists, speech language pathologists, physical therapists, lactation consultants, and craniosacral therapists. Students from all over the world came together to attend this industry-leading post-graduate training academy developed for allied health professionals who wanted to treat orofacial myofunctional disorders. She set forth with a passion for creating patient awareness, talking with anyone whom the subject would benefit, and bridging the gap between professionals.

"Myofunctional disorders are a silent epidemic. So many people are suffering from improper breathing and poor sleep along with several conditions that manifest from that, many of those conditions originating in and around the mouth. I advocate for a shift in our health system where myofunctional therapy should take a role in preventive care. The more we know and connect the better we can work together and serve our patients." When she's not improving the lives of her patients and continuing her work with dental hygiene, the Ithaca native enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Shane, and two children, August and Della, caring for their animals, and cultivating their land for gardening, homesteading and wildlife habitat.
